Prime Minister Narendra Modi today launched 5G telephone services, marking the beginning of a new era of ultra high-speed internet on mobile phones in India. PM has started this service in 13 selected cities of the country from the platform of India Mobile Congress 2022 program held in Delhi. 5G internet services will expand across India in the next few years. The amount spent on 5G services in India is projected to reach US$ 450 billion by 2035. Capable of supporting ultra-high-speed internet, fifth generation or 5G service is expected to bring new economic opportunities and social benefits to Indian society as a transformative force.

To show the potential of 5G technology in India, 3 major telecom operators of the country gave a demo in front of the Prime Minister one by one.  Reliance Jio, owned by Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) Chairman and Managing Director Mukesh Ambani, connected a Mumbai school teacher with students from three different locations in Maharashtra, Gujarat and Odisha.  It demonstrated how 5G would facilitate education by bringing teachers closer to students, bridging the physical distance between them.

In Airtel's demo, a girl from Uttar Pradesh enjoyed a live experience to learn about the Solar System with the help of Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality.  She shared her learning experience with the Prime Minister by appearing on stage through holograms.

Vodafone-Idea demonstrated the safety of workers in an under-construction tunnel of the Delhi Metro through the construction of a 'digital twin' of the tunnel on stage in the demo.  The digital twin will help in delivering safety alerts to workers in real time from a remote location.  Prime Minister Modi watched the live demo from the platform to monitor the work in real time using VR and Artificial Intelligence.

First own 5G experience:
During this, PM Modi not only launched it but also experienced it.  He knew how it would be used, the speed of 5G would be 10 times higher than that of 4G.  It has been brought with better voice quality and connectivity. Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani said that by December 2023, Jio 5G service will reach every taluka of the country.
