A statement issued by the Ministry of Defense said that Lt Gen Anil Chauhan, born on 18 May 1961, was commissioned in the 11 Gorkha Rifles of the Indian Army in 1981. He is an alumnus of the National Defense Academy, Khadakwasla and the Indian Military Academy, Dehradun. In the rank of Major General, he commanded an Infantry (Artillery) Division in the crucial Baramulla Sector in the Northern Command, then as a Lieutenant General, he commanded a Corps in North Eastern India and then as General Officer, Eastern Command from September 2019 He became the Commanding-in-Chief and held this position until his retirement from the Army in May 2021.
