After this chemotherapy was stopped and he was given medicines to reduce pain. He also had kidney and cardiac dysfunction. Pele was known by several nicknames such as Gasolina, The Black Pearl and O Rei (The King). Pele's full name was Edson Arantes do Nascimento. He was regarded as the greatest footballer the world has ever seen. Pelé is the only player to win the World Cup three times, having won the sport's most prestigious trophy, the FIFA World Cup, in 1958, 1962 and 1970.

Pele, 82, died at a private hospital in Sao Paulo, Brazil. He was battling complications related to cancer and breathed his last after being admitted for almost a month. In September 2021, the tumour in his large intestine was surgically removed. Neither his family nor the doctors understood that it had spread to other organs as well.
