WPL 2023: Mumbai beat Gujarat by 55 runs, qualify for playoffs

The 12th edition of the Women's Premier League (WPL) was played between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Gujarat Giants (GG). In this match played at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai, Mumbai Indians once again performed brilliantly and defeated Gujarat Giants by a huge margin of 55 runs. This is Mumbai's fifth consecutive win in this tournament. With this, Mumbai has 10 points and has become the first team to qualify for the playoffs. This is Gujarat's fourth defeat in this tournament. Gujarat's only win in this league is against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Gujarat won that match by 11 runs.

Batting first after losing the toss in this match, Mumbai Indians scored 162 runs losing eight wickets in 20 overs. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur, once again batting brilliantly, played a stormy inning of 51 runs in 30 balls with the help of seven fours and two sixes. There, Yastika Bhatia scored 44 runs. Ashley Gardner took three wickets for Gujarat. Whereas, Kim Garth, Sneh Rana and Tanuja got one wicket each.

In reply, the Gujarat team was bundled out for just 107 runs. Gujarat Giants' innings did not start well and got a blow on the very first ball of the innings. Nat Seaver Brunt lbw to Sophia Dunkley. She could not even open an account.

Gujarat Giants suffered two setbacks in the sixth over. Haley Mathews gave both these shocks. He got S Meghna caught by Amelia Kar on the second ball of the over. Meghna could score 16 runs. After this, Annabel Sutherland was lbw out on the last ball. Sutherland could not even open an account.

The fourth blow came in the ninth over on a score of 48. Isi Wong got Harleen out lbw. She could score 22 runs in 23 balls. After this, Amelia Kar got Ashley Gardner caught by Kalita in the 10th over. Gardner could score eight runs.

Gujarat's seven wickets fell at a score of 85. Dayalan Hemlata was dismissed after scoring six runs and Sneh Rama after scoring 20 runs. Hemlata was dismissed by Amelia Kar and Rana was dismissed by Sewer Brunt. Nine wickets of Gujarat Giants fell in the form of Hemlata. Hemlata got out after scoring six runs.

After this Sneh Rana had 20 runs, Kim Garth had eight runs and Tanuja Kanwar returned to the pavilion without opening the account. For Mumbai, Nat Seaver Brunt and Hayley Mathews took three each, Amelia Kar took two wickets and Isi Wong took one wicket.
