Starting April 1, Twitter is set to remove all legacy blue checkmarks for its users. The decision to remove these checkmarks was announced by CEO Elon Musk in November 2022, citing the way in which they were given out as "corrupt and nonsensical." Users will be alerted to legacy accounts with a pop-up message that reads, "This is a legacy verified account. It may or may not be notable."

To retain their blue checkmark on Twitter, users can sign up for Twitter Blue, the platform's paid subscription service. Twitter Verified posted an official tweet stating, "On April 1st, we will begin winding down our legacy verified program and removing legacy verified checkmarks. To keep your blue checkmark on Twitter, individuals can sign up for Twitter Blue here."

Twitter Blue, which launched in India in February 2023, offers subscribers a blue tick, the ability to post 4,000-character tweets, the ability to edit tweets, fewer advertisements, and the ability to upload videos up to 60 minutes in Full HD resolution. Tweets by subscribers will also be given more prominent placement on the Twitter timeline. The service is priced at Rs 650 per month for the website and Rs 900 for Android and iOS users, with an annual plan priced at Rs 6,800 per year.

Elon Musk recently tweeted a link to a subscription for Twitter Blue at $7 per month. Users can sign up for Twitter Blue via a web browser or by visiting the profile menu on their mobile devices and tapping on "Subscribe."
