Bihar civic elections: first phase voting continues, 52.60 lakh voters, 21287 candidates in fray

Bihar Municipal Elections 2022: Voting for the first phase of civic body elections in Bihar is happening today. Under the first phase, voting is going on in 156 municipal constituencies of 37 districts of Bihar. Voting started at seven in the morning. Despite the bitter cold, there is a queue of voters at the booths.

The first phase of voting for urban municipal elections in Bihar is happening today on 18 December. Voting started at seven in the morning. In the first phase, voting is held for 156 municipalities. In this 52 lakh, 60 thousand voters will decide the fate of 21287 candidates. According to the State Election Commission, voting will be held from 7 am to 5 pm. Voting will be held only in Imamganj of Gaya till 3 pm in view of security reasons. According to the information, voting is taking place in 68 city councils and 88 city panchayats in the first phase. There are 17647 candidates in the fray for 3346 posts of Ward Councillors. On the other hand, 1943 candidates are trying their luck for 156 posts of Chief Councilor and 1697 candidates for 156 posts of Deputy Chief Councilor. Jawans have been deployed at booths for the peaceful conduct of polling.

Digital records of voters will also be kept this time to prevent fake voters from voting in civic elections. For this, the help of the Face Recognition System (FRC) app is being taken. With this, a digital record will be kept at each booth along with a photo of the voters, so that the polling personnel can get complete information by entering the EPIC number.

The inter-state and inter-district boundaries have been sealed regarding voting. Voting started after the mock poll at 7 am. The counting of votes for the first phase will take place on December 20. There is no direct interference of political parties in the civic body elections of Bihar. In such a situation, politicians do not directly dominate the body elections here. Yes, the political leanings of the candidates and their connections with politicians do matter.

It may be known that the municipal elections in Bihar are to be held in two phases. Voting for the first phase is going on today i.e. on 18th December. Polling for the second phase will be held on December 28, while the counting of votes will take place on December 30. Polling will be held from 7 am to 5 pm. After the counting of votes for both phases, new executive bodies will be formed in all the municipal areas of Bihar.
