India is not an ally of America, becoming a superpower itself: White House
India's stature as a responsible and strong country is continuously increasing in the world. Along with all the European countries, America is also accepting this fact with an open mind. Presidents from America to Russia are seen praising India. Now once again in the last 24 hours, not one or two statements have come from Washington to this effect.
India's stature as a responsible and strong country is continuously increasing in the world. Along with all the European countries, America is also accepting this fact with an open mind. In the last 24 hours, not one or two statements have come from Washington to this effect. India getting the chairmanship of the G-20 group of countries is just a sign of it. White House Asia Coordinator Kurt Campbell has said that India will not become an ally of America but is moving towards becoming a big power itself. During a meeting of the Aspen Security Forum on Thursday, Campbell said that in his view, India is the country with the most important bilateral relationship with the United States in the 21st century. I know of no bilateral relationship that has grown deeper and stronger over the past 20 years than that of the United States and India. He said that the United States of America needs to invest even more of its potential in this direction.
On the other hand, on Friday itself, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean Pierre said in her regular press briefing that we are grateful for the leadership given by India at the G-20 Summit in Indonesia and India as the new G-20 President. Looking forward to working together with you. We also look forward to continuing to work with India on many important regional and global issues, Jean-Pierre said. In the recently concluded G-20 joint statement, the message of PM Modi - 'This is not the era of war' was given a place.
India has a unique strategic character, Campbell said. It is not an ally of the United States of America, it aspires to become an independent powerful country. This would be another great power. He stressed that India-US relations have not been built solely on concerns about China. He said, it is a deep understanding of the importance of synergy between the societies of the two countries and that Indians settled in America are a great bridge of relations between us.
Campbell acknowledged that India's bureaucracy was indecisive about India joining the Quad. But when US President Joe Biden repeatedly contacted PM Modi for this, India saw its own interests in it. Campbell said that I am very optimistic about the quad. The Quad may have remained an informal organization but it has opened many channels of coordination between the four democratic countries located in the ocean region, America, Australia, India and Japan.
The White House's Asia Coordinator said that Australia's PM Anthony Albanese has invited us for a major Quad meeting in 2023, which I am very excited about. This meeting will expand our cooperation and coordination not only in South Asia but in the entire Pacific Ocean region.
