The third match of the 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) was played between Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and Delhi Capitals (DC). In this match played at the Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow, Lucknow performed brilliantly and defeated Delhi by a big margin of 50 runs. This is Delhi's third consecutive defeat against Lucknow.

Batting brilliantly, Lucknow Super Giants scored 193 runs for six wickets in 20 overs. Kyle Meyers of West Indies scored the highest 73 runs off 38 balls for Lucknow. In response, Delhi could not achieve this target despite a brilliant half-century from captain David Warner. Delhi could manage only 143 runs losing 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs. Warner played an excellent inning of 56 runs off 48 balls. Mark Wood took five wickets for Lucknow.

Chasing the target of 193 runs, Delhi started with a bang. The team scored 40 runs without loss in the first four overs. But then Mark Wood wreaked havoc. He took two wickets in two consecutive balls in the fifth over of the innings. He clean bowled Prithvi Shaw on the third ball and then Mitchell Marsh on the fourth ball. Prithvi scored 12 runs off nine balls. He hit two fours. Prithvi shared a 41-run partnership with Warner for the first wicket off 27 balls. Australia's Mitchell Marsh, who is running in excellent form, is to bat after him. He could not understand the ball of Mark Wood and got clean bowled.

Mark Wood gave Lucknow Supergiants the third breakthrough in his second and seventh over of the innings. Wood got Sarfaraz Khan caught by Krishnappa Gautam. Avesh Khan gave the biggest success to Lucknow Super Giants. He dismissed Delhi Capitals captain David Warner on the last ball of the 16th over. Warner was dismissed after scoring 56 runs off 48 balls. Apart from Mark Wood, Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi took two wickets each for Lucknow.
