The Delhi High Court has ordered that all patients are to be treated in government hospitals, irrespective of the state they belong to. Patients cannot be forced to show Voter ID for treatment.

Delhi High Court has ordered all the government schools of Delhi while hear the petition of a person living in Bihar on Tuesday. Delhi High Court Justice Pratibha M Singh said that citizens who come from outside could not be stopped from getting treatment. Actually, Lok Nayak Hospital (LNJP) was providing accessible MRI test facilities only to the residents of Delhi, against which a resident of Bihar filed a petition. The petitioner had told the High Court that the LNJP hospital discriminated against people who were not residents of the national capital, Delhi. That's why the hospital has given the date of the MRI test of his knee as 15th July 2024.
Along with this, the petitioner told the court that the doctor of LNJP hospital has said that the facility of free MRI tests is only for the residents of Delhi, who have voter ID here. The petitioner termed it a discriminatory and arbitrary action.

During the hearing, the counsel representing the Delhi government told the court that the hospital was not discriminating on the basis of residence of any citizen. He termed the allegation of the petitioner as wrong. Along with this, the lawyer also said that there is no evidence from the petitioner that he has been asked to show the voter ID. The hospital has given MRI test dates based on availability.

In the Delhi High Court, Justice Pratibha M Singh ordered that all government hospitals in Delhi have to treat all citizens, irrespective of the place of residence of the patient. Along with this, the patient cannot be insisted to show Voter ID for treatment. At the same time, the Justice ordered the LNJP Hospital to conduct the MRI test of the petitioner on 26 December.
