After being convicted in a defamation case regarding the Modi surname, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is going to challenge this decision in court. Former MP Rahul Gandhi will file a petition challenging the verdict in the Surat Sessions Court today. Rahul is going to file a petition in the sessions court after 11 days against the sentencing in this case. According to sources, Chief Ministers of three states – Ashok Gehlot (Rajasthan), Bhupesh Baghel (Chhattisgarh) and Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu (Himachal Pradesh) will also reach the court with him. During this, many veteran Congress leaders will also go to court along with Rahul Gandhi.

According to party sources, Rahul Gandhi wants to be present on the occasion of the appeal in the sessions court. Other big leaders including Gujarat have been asked to reach out. Party sources say that a decision can be taken on other options including an appeal to the High Court.

Several party leaders, including Congress party's national president Mallikarjun Kharge and general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, had expressed their displeasure towards the court's decision. After the withdrawal of Rahul Gandhi's membership, the Congress party organized Sankalp Satyagraha across the country last Sunday. At the same time, a notice has also been issued to Rahul Gandhi to vacate the house.

After being convicted in this case by the Surat Court of Gujarat, Rahul Gandhi lost his membership. The court sentenced Rahul to 2 years in jail and a fine of Rs 15,000. Following his conviction by the court, the Lok Sabha Secretariat revoked his membership in Parliament. Congress is protesting against the Modi government across the country regarding this.

During the campaign for the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, Rahul Gandhi commented on the name of PM Modi in Kolar, Karnataka. Rahul Gandhi had said that how are the names of all the thieves Modi. After this, there was a case against him. The Congress leader was accused of hurting and tarnishing the sentiments of the entire Modi community. While hearing this case, the Surat court sentenced Rahul.
