Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a regional meeting on Saturday on the issue of drug trafficking and national security in Assam. During this, he will discuss ways to reduce drug abuse in the northeastern states. Drugs will be destroyed
He said that under the guidance of the Home Minister, about 11,000 kg of narcotic substances would be destroyed by the Guwahati Narcotics Control Bureau on Saturday itself. Apart from this, about 13,675 kg of heroin, ganja, codeine cough syrup, and narcotic pills seized by the northeastern states will also be destroyed. It is known that 2531 kg of narcotic substances has been seized in Assam and 11,144 kg in Tripura. Altogether around 25,000 kg of drugs will be destroyed under Amit Shah's guidance.

NCB is running a special mission
An official statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs said that the Ministry of Home Affairs under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is committed to curbing the menace of drug abuse. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) is also running a special mission to destroy the confiscated drugs from June 1, in line with the Modi government's pledge to make society drug-free.

On the occasion of the 75th anniversary of independence, the Narcotics Control Bureau decided to destroy 75,000 kg of narcotics as part of this special 75-day campaign. However, the agency achieved this target within 60 days of the deadline. As of 30 July 2022, the NCB had destroyed 82,000 kg of confiscated drugs.
