Former ICICI Bank CEO Chanda Kochhar and her husband Deepak Kochhar were produced by the CBI in a special court in Mumbai. The CBI requested the special court to grant the Kochhar couple custody for three days. Accepting the demand of CBI, the court granted three-day CBI custody to Chanda Kochhar and Deepak Kochhar. The CBI had on Friday arrested Kochhar in a loan fraud case involving bank officials and the Videocon group. The CBI alleged that Chanda Kochhar entered into a criminal conspiracy and sanctioned loans to six different companies. The loan amount was several crores of rupees and he had put pressure on other banks to pass on his loan.

After receiving the complaint, the CBI registered a case of cheating in January 2019 at its Mumbai branch. The probe agency has also moved an application for invoking Section 409 of the IPC against Chanda Kochhar. According to a CBI official, the arrests were made on the basis of a January 2019 complaint filed against Chanda Kochhar, her husband and Videocon Group's Venugopal Dhoot.

Npower Renewables, Supreme Energy, Videocon International Electronics Limited and Videocon Industries Limited were also named as accused in the FIR.

Dhoot allegedly invested crores of rupees in NuPower after the Videocon group received several hundred crores as a loan from ICICI Bank in 2012. "We have also conducted search operations at their premises and recovered some documents related to the case," the official said.
