Ranchi/New Delhi: Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren demanded a special package from the central government during the Governing Council meeting of NITI Aayog on Sunday to deal with the drought-like situation in the state. This information was given in a statement issued by the Chief Minister's Office (CMO) here. According to the CMO statement, in a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Soren said that the state faces drought every three to four years due to a lack of irrigation facilities.

"This year, the state has so far recorded 50 percent less rainfall, with less than 20 percent of the paddy sowing target being achieved," the statement quoted the chief minister as saying.
