Kerala Police have arrested a PFI leader in connection with the murder of an RSS leader. Giving details of the action, Kerala Police said that Palakkad District Secretary of Popular Front of India (PFI) Abubakar Siddiq has been arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) leader Srinivasan. The RSS leader was murdered in Kerala on April 16 last year. After his assassination, RSS and BJP had accused PFI of murder.

PFI leader Abubakar Siddiq, who was caught by the police, confessed in the interrogation of the police that there were many other leaders on his target. Kerala Police said that he was allegedly involved with a group of PFI activists in preparing the list of many more leaders who were to be targeted. These leaders belonged to the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), the BJP, the CPI(M) and the Youth League.

RSS leader Srinivasan was murdered on April 16 while he was at his shop. Some miscreants riding bikes reached his shop and attacked the RSS leader with a sword. After that, the atmosphere got heated. The police suspected that the RSS leader was murdered in retaliation for the murder of PSI worker Subair. It is known that a day after Subair's murder, Srinivas was put to death.

The communal atmosphere in Kerala had deteriorated after the killing of activists of two opposing religious organizations in two days. After which the police constituted a special investigation team headed by Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Law and Order to investigate both cases. Then the investigation of the case started. Earlier, more than 13 people associated with PFI have been arrested in this case. Now PFI's Palakkad District Secretary Abubakar Siddiq has been arrested.
